How to Add and Use the Unsubscribe Button in OttoMatey Emails

Updated over 2 months ago

The Unsubscribe option is a key feature in email communication, allowing recipients to opt out of future emails if they prefer. Here’s how to use it effectively.

Why Include an Unsubscribe Option?

The Unsubscribe button is essential for ensuring compliance with email regulations, building trust, maintaining a positive sender reputation, and targeting an engaged audience.

How to Enable the Unsubscribe Button

The option to include an Unsubscribe button at the end of your email is available when selecting the Send Email step in your campaign.

  1. Navigate to the Send Email step while setting up your campaign.

  2. Toggle the Unsubscribe Button option to enable it.

  3. Click Save Step to apply the changes.

Note: While the button won’t appear in the email body preview, it will automatically be added to the email when sent.

How Does It Work?

  • Prospects who receive emails from your campaign will see the Unsubscribe button at the bottom of their email.

  • Clicking the button automatically opts them out of future emails from you.

  • Unsubscribed prospects are automatically excluded from any Send Email steps in your campaigns.

Unsubscribe Logic in OttoMatey

  1. Email Sent:
The email is sent to the prospect as part of the campaign.

  2. Prospect Unsubscribes:

    • If the prospect clicks "Unsubscribe," they are moved to Pending with the notification: "Profile unsubscribed from emails."

    • This only applies if the next step in the campaign is also Send Email.

  3. Next Step Continuation:

    • If the next step is not a Send Email step, the campaign continues as normal for the prospect.

  4. Handling Shared Email Addresses:

    • If two different prospects share the same email address (via separate LinkedIn links), and one unsubscribes, the other remains subscribed.

Re-subscribing Prospects

If you need to contact an unsubscribed prospect via email again:

  • You must generate a new link for them.

  • Deleting and recreating the previous link will not reactivate their subscription.

Benefits of Using the Unsubscribe Button

Including an Unsubscribe button in your emails demonstrates respect for recipients' preferences, ensures compliance with legal requirements, and helps maintain a high-quality audience for your campaigns.
